W when I first purchased the model he was in rough shape and appear to be painted with either a very translucent paint or with enamels so at this stage I made sure to strip the model thoroughly using scale 75's paint killer and decided to get to work.

once I strip the model completely clean down to the bare metal I decided to go ahead and clean up all the old mold lines that were still there after all these years and then once that was done I sanded some rough spots sanded down on some of the birds and the metal made sure that the base was able to be used and made sure that of course the tab where he would slide into the base wasn't bent or warped, from here I decided to set up a quick color scheme loosely based on his appearance in the novels he starred in, having to mix a silvery gold color due to the fact that necron compound would have been a little bit too dark for what I needed and I could always knock back color if need be using a sepia wash.at this stage I have primed the model a flat black in doing so it would help me really pick out colors better after this stage which I said I didn't get any pictures of I did kind of a modified version of slap chop where I laid out my mid-tones and my highlights using a gray and a white paint afterwards I started to slowly put in my base coats.at this stage I had decided to lay out the base tones for the flesh color and I would lay out the first light gray tone that I would shade up to White for the pants well here I spent a majority of the time establishing the cape and the colors of the cape using a mixture of reds and dark maroon colors I would also apply the first base coat of a leather color to all the other parts of the model avoiding the metallics at this stage and not going too in-depth of any glazing of shadows or lowlights yet.at this stage I had decided to go ahead and get my final white color but I would also shade in fenresian gray as a blaze into areas on the inner leg around the crotch and into the musculature areas of the legs to help give a little more definition and help the model will not look as squatty. Imoand at this stage I would go about painting our first couple layers of metallics both on the armor and onto the hilt of the sword I would begin painting in the first layer of detail on the eyes, as well as adding the stripes to the pants and of course starting to pick out a few extra details in the boots and some of the leather areas by adding a darker brown tone into recesses and Shadow areas I really wanted to draw attention to.at this stage we were starting to reach the end of the process I'd went ahead and laid in the hair color using Tamia yellow green which makes a very nice blonde tone I had put the eyes in and I started adding a little more details to the sword and a little more details to some more the leather areas and some more of various areas across the entire model to really sharpen up contrast and establish a nice rich tone that will fit among the entire model even adding some shading into the flesh tones and adding eyebrows and really giving attention to the scar that sculpted onto the cheek.
and here was the final result I tried to stay as close to the original novels as possible of course with a model of the small and this old given the fact he proportions are not the greatest out there compared to modern models the challenge really was trying to convey the stoic and Noble nature of the character while still working with a slightly wonky sculpt, in the end I can say that this is a lot of fun I actually enjoyed the process of painting this old model quite a bit more than I thought I would, this is one of the reasons why I've decided to get deeper into the old Hammer hobby the model seem to have a little more charm they're more fun to paint and given the fact that a lot more named characters from both Warhammer fantasy and 40K exist in Old Hammer format it's much more entertaining as a painter as someone who appreciates the writing of older Warhammer editions the writing of certain characters this is proven to me that old Hammer is just as good if not better of a hobby than modern Warhammer.
